What is CoMaH Project
The project covers Antenatal and Postnatal Care Services and represents a vital initiative designed to enhance maternal and infant health of pregnant women in Ugandan communities. These services are critical in addressing the needs of pregnant women and ensuring their well-being before, during, and after childbirth. Recognizing that many maternal deaths are preventable, we thought to bring essential healthcare services directly to the people through mobile maternal health camps, where expectant mothers receive antenatal check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, ultrasounds, and health education. We provide Mama Kits, simple but vital delivery packs that include gloves, gauze, soap, and sanitary items to promote clean, safe births, especially for women who cannot afford these basic supplies. Through group sessions and personal counseling, our trained health workers educate women on pregnancy nutrition, warning signs, newborn care, and family planning. We also strengthen emergency referral systems by collaborating with local clinics and transport providers to ensure timely access to medical facilities in critical situations. This program is deeply community-rooted, working closely with peer mothers, community health workers, and local leaders to raise awareness, build trust, and encourage early and consistent care-seeking behaviors. So far, we have served over 5,000 pregnant women and distributed more than 3,000 Mama Kits, leading to increased skilled birth attendance and safer deliveries. By empowering women with knowledge, support, and resources, our Community Maternal Health program is not only saving lives but also strengthening families and transforming entire communities.
